Orebound
A downloadable game for Windows
WIP - The original build is an unfinished prototype submitted for the GDM Game Jam. We'll be leaving that up until the conclusion of the voting period, but will be updating new builds as we move forward with development to show our progress. Please check out the latest build!
Orebound is a single player tactical position-based competitive card game set in an alien world where players compete for valuable ore in 1v1 battles.
A player’s deck represents a team of harvesters that is attempting to gather ore. Players play cards on their side of the game board on the first rank, and must plan carefully by protecting their harvesters as they move up to harvest. At the end of 6 rounds, whoever has gathered the most ore wins the game!
Game Overview
A single game consists of 6 rounds. A round contains 2 turns (one from each player), and a shared phase where harvesting, attacking, and movement occur.
The winner is determined by the player who has collected the most ore at the end of 6 rounds.
How to Play
At the beginning of the game, each player draws 4 cards, and draws an additional card at the start of each subsequent turn. Energy is the resource required to play cards. Players start with 1 energy, and gain an additional energy at the start of each turn. At the beginning of each turn, a player's used energy is replenished. Available energy for each player is tracked on the right side of the screen. A player may also pay the energy cost of a card to remove it from the board by dragging it to their discard pile.
Cards come in 2 flavors; harvesters and attackers.
- HP (top left) - Amount of health a card has. When this reaches 0, the card will be destroyed.
- Power (top right) - Amount of ore the card will harvest during the Harvest Phase (harvester), or amount of damage the card will do to the nearest opposing card on the Attack Phase (attacker).
- Cost (bottom left) - Amount of energy required to play the card from your hand onto the board.
- Symbol (bottom right) - Symbol required to gather ore (harvesters), or attack pattern (attackers).
Some cards also have special abilities. The Harvester example above has the Lucky ability, which allows it to harvest twice when it's symbol is rolled.
Round Sequence
A round consists of each player taking a turn, followed by a shared phase where harvesting, attacking, and movement occur.
- Player 1 turn
- Player 2 turn
- Harvest Phase
- Attack Phase
- Movement Phase
On a players turn, they may play as many cards as they want as long as they have the requisite energy available. Once a player has finished playing cards, they must hit the End Turn button to end their turn.
Harvest Phase
Once each player has taken their turn, a dice containing the Harvester symbols is rolled. Any harvester in the Harvest Zone (designated by the teal colored grid spaces) with a matching symbol will harvest ore equal to their power and add it to the player's score.
Attack Phase
During the Attack Phase, all attackers will automatically attack the nearest opposing unit in the same file.
Movement Phase
During the Movement Phase, all harvesters will automatically move up one space if able. Harvesters must be in the Harvest Zone on rank 2 of the board to harvest ore. Attackers do not move.
One these phases have completed, a new round begins and each player takes another turn. The game ends once Round 6 completes, and the player with the most ore wins!
